CERTIFICATION

All officiating training is valid for ONE SEASON and must be completed yearly by junior members, coaches & club directors.  

Once a course has been completed, the appropriate certification will be automatically awarded.  A list of certifications is visible in a member's NCR-USAV account in their Credentials tab.  A member who has completed the 2025 Junior Athlete Officiating Training online training will have the following certifications in the Credentials tab: 

  • Junior R1 Training
  • Junior R2 Training
  • Junior Line Judge Training
  • Junior Scorer Training
  • Junior Asst. Scorer / Libero Tracking Training

Once coaches complete course NO25_110 Junior Coach Officiating Training, the Adult Non-Professional Referee certification will be added to their Credentials in their SportsEngine account. 

Certifications are also visible in the Credential column on the official SportsEngine Season Management roster.  Junior Officiating certifications are indicated as "1", "2", "S", "J" and "L".  Coaching certification is indicated as "AR". 

 

ONLINE OFFICIATING TRAINING

  • Included with USAV Membership
  • Hosted in the USA Volleyball Learning Management System
  • Register for a set of required video courses covering R1, R2, line judge, libero tracking, and scorekeeper
  • Course work takes approximately 2 hours to complete 

COST: Included with NCR-USAV membership

IN-PERSON OFFICIATING TRAINING

  • Hosted by North Country Region USA Volleyball member clubs
  • Classroom training from a USAV certified official covering R1, R2, line judge, libero tracking, and scorekeeper
  • Training provided at the location of the club's choosing
  • Minimum of 30 attendees
  • Attendees MUST pre-register
  • Course takes approximately 2 hours to complete 

COST: $125 per official each session/$200 per official each additional clinic

J.O.T.
(JUNIOR OFFICIALS TRAINING)
 
  • Available at NCR Road Trip events 
  • Clubs may request to have J.O.T. at their NCR-sanctioned events
  • Juniors officiate matches (a typical tournament schedule)
  • A USAV-certified official is on-site overseeing up to 4 courts and giving live feedback to junior officials
  • Perfect for all ages, and an excellent introduction with live training for juniors who are eligible to begin officiating for pay 

COST: $300 per certified official - full day
