North Country Region Volleyball (NCR) is under the umbrella of USA Volleyball, the National Governing Body of Volleyball in the USA and part of the Olympic Movement. As one of 40 regions in the United States our mission is to Grow the Game. As one of the largest regions in the country both geographically and membership, we serve Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Laura Bush was named Executive Director for North Country Region Volleyball in March of 2018. As Executive Director, she oversees all day to day operations of a six person staff that services a region that boasts over 20,000 registered members. Reaching across the entire region (Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) to grow the game of volleyball is the focus of North Country Region Volleyball.
Prior to the position at North Country Region, Bush had a successful 21 year career as a Division I College Volleyball Coach with her last seven years of college coaching being at the University of Minnesota. Bush earned her B.A. from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she was a four year volleyball letter winner. She earned her M.Ed. from Michigan State University after awarded an NCAA post graduate scholarship. Bush resides in Saint Paul.

Beth has been a part of North Country Region since 2006. She worked with several clubs, most recently Monti Club, within the Region.
Modaff started playing volleyball in 7th grade and went onto play throughout her years at Northland International University, in Dunbar, Wisconsin where she graduated with a major in education and a minor in coaching.
Modaff has been coaching at Monticello High School for 10 years and was selected in 2019 as North Country Region's 14U Coach of the Year and has been named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as National Coach of the Year for 14U.

Shelly was named the Event and Tournament Director in the Spring of 2022. Before joining the North Country Region Volleyball team, she was the Executive Director at the Nordby Center for Recreation in Huron, South Dakota for 22 years where she dedicated her efforts towards youth activities and sports.
Shelly brings multi-faceted experience to the organization . She was the Head Coach for Huron Tiger Volleyball for 19 years in which her teams won two State AA championships and were Runner-Up once. She was named South Dakota Coach of the Year two times in her career. She started the Huron Volleyball Club in 2005 and was the club director and a coach for 18 seasons. Before joining the North Country Region Volleyball team, Shelly was on the Board of Directors since 2015 and most recently as the Treasurer.
In her time as the Executive Director at the recreation and fitness facility, she was involved in over 85 basketball and volleyball tournaments.

Mariah Twedt was named North Country Region's Membership Specialist in August of 2021. The Membership Specialist is here to assist all members with membership registration, membership benefits, membership types, eligibility questions, and rostering in USAV/SportsEngine Governing Seasons. She has been a member of North Country Region - USA Volleyball for four years as a club coach at DIGS Volleyball Club.
Prior to jumping on with North Country Region, Mariah has been active with volleyball since the 7th grade and has played in many leagues from sand volleyball to indoor volleyball. Currently, she has been coaching at Legacy Christian Academy for 5 years as the middle school and high school volleyball coach. She graduated from the University of Northwestern in St. Paul with a Kinesiology Health Marketing and Management degree in 2018, and recently graduated from the University of Ohio with a Masters in Interscholastic Athletic Administration in 2021.
Along with being involved with sports at a club and interscholastic level, Mariah has had a career working in customer service with her previous job as the Outreach Specialist at Anoka Technical College. Mariah has been guiding students and athletes navigate their way through the process of joining education and athletics.

Deb Ahrens came to North Country Region Volleyball in February 2018. She returned to her original role with the organization as the bookkeeper after resigning her position of Chief Executive Finance Officer. She provides financial management and human resources for the organization.
Prior to joining North Country Region, Deb operated a successful bookkeeping business for the past 29 years. She, her husband Roger and dogs Louie and Penny reside in South Dakota.
