USA VOLLEYBALL’S NORTH COUNTRY REGION
ADDS NEW EVENT OPERATIONS POSITION
Hires Twin Cities’ Sports and Entertainment Veteran
Edina, MN - July 10, 2019 - North Country Region Volleyball, the upper Midwest chapter of USA Volleyball, announced today that it has added a new Event and Tournament Manager position responsible for overseeing the operations of its sanctioned events and tournaments and supporting tournament directors of North Country Region sanctioned events.
“We are excited to be able to create a position in our organization that will serve as a consistent resource for our member clubs and assist with our mission of growing the sport of volleyball,” said Laura Bush, North Country Region Volleyball Executive Director. “North Country Region 2019 – 2020 events will display the Region’s commitment to safety, fun, and quality.”
North Country Region serves 300+ member clubs made up of over 18,000 individual participants including volleyball players, coaches, referees, scorekeepers, parents and spectators throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is one of the largest regions of USA Volleyball, behind only the Southern California and Ohio Valley regions.
North Country Region Volleyball also announced that Sandy Sweetser has accepted the newly created event operations position. Sweetser has been involved in the Twin Cities’ sports and entertainment industry for the past 30 years, most recently leading event management, guest services and marketing for Target Center arena in Minneapolis. While at the arena, she oversaw volleyball events including World League Men’s Volleyball, AVP Pro Beach Volleyball, B1G-ACC Challenge (in conjunction with the University of Minnesota) and the 2018 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship.
“I am so excited to join the North Country Region team!” stated Sandy Sweetser. “Their passion for and commitment to the sport of volleyball is evident! I hope to bring those same qualities to our member clubs as we continue to work together to grow the sport of volleyball in the upper Midwest.”
“Sandy’s experience is vast and exceptional on organizing events from conception to completion. She has directed the gamut of sporting events from a local youth soccer tournament to prime ticket events at Target Center,” stated Laura Bush from North Country Region. “Her discipline to detail, love of sport, exceptional communication skills, and overall demeanor is a benefit for our tournament participants, tournament directors, and spectators. We are thrilled about Sandy and what she adds to the Region.”
In addition to her new role with North Country Region Volleyball, Sweetser is owner of Cardinal Resources, an event consulting firm. She currently serves on the Sports Minneapolis’ Advisory Board and the Chanhassen Parks and Recreation Commission. She is a past president and current secretary/treasurer and board member of the Ohio State Alumni Club of Minnesota.USA Volleyball is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of volleyball in the United States and is recognized as such by the Federation Internationale de Volleyball and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). North Country Region Volleyball is a non-profit, membership organization. As one of 40 regions under the umbrella of USA Volleyball, which is the National Governing Body of Volleyball in the United States as designated by the United States Olympic Committee, North Country Region is the upper Midwest chapter of USA Volleyball. The Region includes Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and the UP of Michigan and serves as the foremost agency for junior and adult players, club directors and coaches, parents and spectators, officials and scorekeepers, sitting and sand with the intent of growing the game of volleyball.
