Officiating Opportunities

Clinic Notes - This is from the Advanced Clinic:

  • A Net Violation only occurs when a player is in the act of playing the ball.
  • During a deciding game change of sides players must stay on the court and can NOT go to the bench to grab anything - including water bottle. It gives that team an unfair advantage.
  • Officials (provisional and regional) get together with a partner or small group to take the test, that way you can look up the answerers together and also correct them as well. Sometimes it is much easier that way. Your score doesn’t matter, just correct it and send it back to be completed.

  • To get certified, you need to take the exam A online, and then correct it to 100% and return it to travis.karlin@ncrusav.org. Until you do that, you have not completed the exam.
  • It is not a USAV technique to have the line judge move to the side when a server is near that LJ's position. They should step back behind the server, inline with the sideline extention. Having them step to the side is sometimes used in NCAA when the R1 is having difficulty seeing the end line on a jump serve. When a server takes position within 1-2 meters of the LJ, the LJ must step behind the server along the sideline extension. (DCR, Points of Emphasis, page 148)
  • A ball may only be retrieved beyond the playing area (i.e. off the sport court) if the area is clear on all sides. This will rarely be the case if there are spectator chairs on any side of the sport court. This does not include the team benches or scorers table. (DCR, Points of Emphasis, page 148)
