Rating information -
Please check your current certification to see if you need a rating in 2008 to be current. Most ratings expired Oct 31st of 2007.  There are limited slots at each location, so sign up early to reserve your spot.  Priority scheduling will be given for out of town officials coming in for President's Day.  We are still confirming sites in Duluth and in the Moorhead and Dakota areas.  Times listed below are wave start times.  You will be scheduled for a time slot of 2 or 3 matches.  Provisional officials need an R1 & R2 rating (approx 2 hrs) and Regional officials need an R1, R2, and Scorekeeper (approx 3 hrs).  Let me know if you have specific time constraints on that day.  Our goal is to be efficient with your time.  You are also welcome to stay on site before or after your rating for additional work and help.  Please email Travis if you have any questions. Email

USA Volleyball Launches Referee Training Site with First Referee Training Video

USA Volleyball and its Officials Division have launched the first USAV-sanctioned referee training web site with the release of the only comprehensive training video of its kind.

First Referee Basics, a 23-minute video available on line at www.volleyballreftraining.com, is the first of many such training modules and covers such topics as attire, necessary equipment, pre-match briefings, basic first referee mechanics and the three elements of making a call.

The USAV-approved videos available on www.volleyballreftraining.com feature narration by Tom Blue, USAV vice president for international referees, and are professionally produced to address the most recent rules, techniques and interpretations. The videos available at www.volleyballreftraining.com are the only training videos sanctioned by USA Volleyball.

In addition to First Referee Basics, www.volleyballreftraining.com will soon release Second Referee Basics. A module on USA Volleyball signals is also in production and we plan to produce short (10-20 minute) modules on other topics, including:

Sanctions

The Libero

Ball handling

Dealing w/participants

Pre-match conversations

In-match referee teamwork

Line judging

Members of www.volleyballreftraining.com can access all available videos through six- or 12-month subscriptions. In addition to the training videos, the site will ultimately include "you make the call" video clips, or still shots, along with a blog, and up-to-date web sites for necessary resources for all levels of officiating.

This site is for all volleyball referees, and if there is anything USAV's Officials Division can do to assist in the training of referees, please let us know. We want to keep the site current for all levels of referees.
